Windows XP variants

Windows XP Starter Edition, for new computer users in developing countries. Windows XP Home Edition, for home desktops and laptops. Windows XP Professional Edition, for business and power users (Version number: NT 5.1.2600). Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, for PCs with 64-bit processors (based on Windows Server 2003). Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, for notebooks with a touch screen or a pen-sensitive screen. Windows XP Media Center Edition, for desktops and notebooks with an emphasis on audio, video, and PVR capability.

Windows Vista variants

Windows Vista Starter, for new computer users in developing countries. Windows Vista Home Basic, for casual PC users and will not include support for the Aero Glass user-interface effects. Windows Vista Home Premium will include technology support digital photography, movie-making and TV, as well as mobility-focused technologies. Windows Vista Business will include the full-fledged Aero user interface, as well as Tablet PC functionality. Windows Vista Ultimate for people who have a single PC that they use both at work and at home.

Future versions of windows

Windows Vienna, (formerly known as Blackcomb), slated to be Vista's successor. Windows Monch, similar to Eiger but with more local device capabilities. Part of Windows Managed Desktop.

Windows Vista Features

Windows vista is the best of Windows ever built, had includes these following features... windows AERO makes the borders of each window translucent so you can see the desktop or other windows behind it. Microsoft asserts that the clear border lets you focus on your work instead of on your interface. Live Icons give you up-to-date thumbnail previews of each file. Flip 3D, lets you choose from 3-D, moving thumbnails rather than 2-D images. metadata, or tags, to your files can make these searches more efficient. Sidebar allows you to access mini-applications called Gadgets. Meeting Space is a teleconferencing program for small groups of Vista users. Speech Recognition lets users control their computers and create documents using their voices. Windows Mail replaces Outlook Express for home users and includes anti-phishing tools. Windows Calendar, also for home users, is an interactive calendar application. SuperFetch (intelligent prioritization technology) preloads frequently used applications into the memory so they can start up faster. ReadyBoost lets people add RAM to their system with a USB thumb drive. Sleep lets you quickly resume working by storing files that are currently in use. Windows Vista uses a new graphics driver model, known as the Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM). DirectX 10, is a built-in, exclusive part of windows vista.
