Current versions of windows

WINDOWS CE for embedded systems including Consumer Electronics products. WINDOWS MOBILE for smart phones and PDAs. WINDOWS XP & WINDOWS VISTA for computer system.

Windows XP variants

Windows XP Starter Edition, for new computer users in developing countries. Windows XP Home Edition, for home desktops and laptops. Windows XP Professional Edition, for business and power users (Version number: NT 5.1.2600). Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, for PCs with 64-bit processors (based on Windows Server 2003). Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, for notebooks with a touch screen or a pen-sensitive screen. Windows XP Media Center Edition, for desktops and notebooks with an emphasis on audio, video, and PVR capability.

Windows Vista variants

Windows Vista Starter, for new computer users in developing countries. Windows Vista Home Basic, for casual PC users and will not include support for the Aero Glass user-interface effects. Windows Vista Home Premium will include technology support digital photography, movie-making and TV, as well as mobility-focused technologies. Windows Vista Business will include the full-fledged Aero user interface, as well as Tablet PC functionality. Windows Vista Ultimate for people who have a single PC that they use both at work and at home.

Future versions of windows

Windows Vienna, (formerly known as Blackcomb), slated to be Vista's successor. Windows Monch, similar to Eiger but with more local device capabilities. Part of Windows Managed Desktop.
